Primeval History ראשית
Genesis 1–11
From creation to Babel, Genesis tells a universal story set against the rivers and mountains of the Mesopotamian world. Its geography is real in its landmarks and deliberately elusive in its details.

How securely each place is located
- Textually identified. The text names a region or feature whose location is not in doubt — Egypt, the Jordan, the Salt Sea.
- Probable identification. A named ancient place matched to a specific site with reasonable confidence, often because the name survives.
- Traditional identification. Located by longstanding Jewish or other tradition — venerable, but not independently verifiable.
- Disputed. Several serious identifications exist, and scholars disagree.
- Unknown. The text does not give enough information to establish a modern location.
